Do you have any advice for young/new referees? :
Work hard and listen to advice from other referees. Sometimes
its good and other times its not, but try it and see if it works
for you!
Have you had any funny/strange things happen
at/during a game? : I’ve
had a couple! I once ran the line for Alan Boyd in a junior
game at Arthurlie. I signalled for a throw in and as I lowered
my flag it disintegrated! I had to try to put it back together
as the play continued!! Well worth the £300!!!
Also, having been reffing for about 5 years, I reffed a game
where a player took a corner, it hit the near post and rebounded
to him and he crossed it again. I missed the fact it should
have been an indirect free kick until a player pointed it out!
Luckily it didn’t result in a goal! However, the following week
the exact same happened again – this time I noticed it! It
hasn’t happened again since (about 6 years!) but twice in 2
weeks…crazy!
